Things I've Learned In the Past Year

Hey everyone! Summer is here, and school is out! Thank goodness! I genuinely can't believe it. The year seemed so short, and although it presented its challenges, (remote learning). I learned a lot about myself and others that I didn't know before. Actually, I'm not even gonna lie to you guys, "remote learning" for me, was more me like getting distracted on the internet for hours and putting off my homework until Wednesday night. Luckily, that is no longer a problem, not because I've matured, but because it's two months before I have to return.
I subscribed most of you guys to my mailing list with your school email when I first created my website, and I will be posting much more frequently now that testing and homework aren't on my to-do list. Thus, if you would like to keep getting notifications for when I post continue to check your school email, sign up with a personal one, or add me on Snapchat for reminders. But if you would like to sign up with a new email address, there is a section underneath the top labeled subscribe and you just have to type in your email address. That being said, here are things I've learned in the past year!
Numero Uno: The gold cohort is packed with pretty cool people!
This year I've bonded with so many of the students I had vaguely known beforehand. Especially Mrs. Schlueter's A.P. World class because that was my lunch bunch! The class was made up of Danica Simpson, Lizzie Miller, Q Slaughter, Salma Nhaila, Anna Merante, Katherine Wojcik, and Alex Song. So here are some of the things I got to learn about them.
Danica is very brainy! Not just about her school work either, it seems that she's got a lifetime of knowledge about riddles and dad jokes. You know, the important things in life. I say this because every time Mr. Roberts and a lady whose name I should know by now, came in to give us our joke and trivia of the day, she normally cut them off generally within 5 seconds. They were weird ones too. It wasn't like, " What book series's main protagonist was named Harry Potter? Those are the kind of stumpers that I would nail, but no! Those two came in with ones like, "Which state is known as the nutmeg state?" I guarantee you after the word nutmeg there would be her pale arm up in the air, her sports announcer voice fully activated, going, "Connecticut?" As if she wasn't 100% confident that she was right. That girl must be on Pinterest looking up Jokes and Trivia 24/7. Her random knowledge intimidates me at times. I've googled " How to Be Worldly," in the past, but internet articles were telling me I should watch the news and I swiped out of those tabs very quickly. You wanna see some real speed bitch?! That's a tiktok reference for all the oldies but the goodies out there.
Next up is Lizzie Miller! For all of your that don't know Lizzie, I'm just gonna tell you upfront, she doesn't care too much about things. I aspire to give as many craps as Lizzie does, but I'm a natural-born worrier so I'm thinking that will have to be more of a Lizzie thing. I've been trying to emulate her carefree attitude but it's so hard! And I think I know why. It's always been fun for me to worry and get confrontational because of the adrenaline rush. I told her last week that my biggest passion is yelling at people and eating, and she just started laughing! Meanwhile, I was just laughing along like yeah that was totally a joke... Please don't think I'm crazy!
Lizzie in stressful situations:
Me in stressful situations:
This is disgustingly accurate. Actually, I take after my Dad with my emotions. We're both like, " OH MY GOD!!!"
Now for Q and Salma. I'm going to group them together for reasons you'll soon come to understand. The thing about these two is that they remind my of an old married couple and brother and sister at the same time. Ew but true. They are always having a who's taller? competition and at times, (most of the time) Q tells us he doesn't care what she thinks and goes on to do what he wanted to do in the first place. Salma also tries to start trouble with people on a regular basis so she has a tendency to affirm anyone who is a around that she is a good person. The room will be dead silent, and then out of absolutely nowhere you'll hear a small voice go, " I'm so nice. I'm such an awesome person." It's like that internet comment thread where the people comment whole spiel.
Nobody:
Literally nobody ever:
Salma: I'm a saint who wants the best for people
It's like she is attempting to ingrain that idea into our heads so that she can get away with even more crap in the future! For the record, I don't want her to stop being michevious because it is entertaining beyond belief! You can bet on me to laugh everytime she tells one of her many stories or makes a comment about someone else. For example Q was texting Chris Donnelly during lunch one day and Salma was like, " Oh my god! Chris literally hates me!" We all asked her why and she said, " I sort of... accidently... It wasn't my fault! * Sigh* But I kind of spread a rumor about him a longtime ago that offended him?" What was the rumor? That he's gay. My question is... how in the world can that be an accident? It's three very clear words! Chris. Is. Gay. Repeating for the people in the back, he is NOT actually gay! NOT that there is anything wrong with being gay, but in this case it was just a RUMOR. Anyways, everyone was just looking at her like, wow I wonder why he didn't just forget about that one? Q on the other hand is fairly simple compared to Salma. He likes most people, likes to, wait no chooses to run, and his favorite word is legend. Apparently it doesn't take much for Q to say you're one. It helps your chances if Salma doesn't like you. A good example is her brother, who is supposedly the biggest legend to have ever lived.
I can't say a bad thing about Anna Merante and basically nobody else can either! Even if you probed them. She's too nice! Darn her and mannerly ways! If you interact with her, polite conversation and a smile are guaranteed. I've seen her and her brother, Nick greet one another in the hallway and even THAT, is with complete kindness! It's just so unnatural to see a brother and sister treat each other that way. When I see my brother in the hallway he gives me a wave that almost looks like he is swatting me away, has slaped me on my huge flat spot on the back on my head so much, I'm convinced the indent into my head is from him, and his pet name for me is Dingue. Dingue means crazy person in french. All I hope is that the Merantes always stay the freakishly loving people they are, and that I never go bald.
Kathrine and Alex are quiet but if those two want to talk it will be about orchestra or food. From that it is self explaitory why they are my type of people. Well half of it is. The ending half.
Numero Dos: You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar
For some reason, being mean and forceful didn't make people go, "ooh you know I want to help her!" I have no idea what the failed logic was in this plan! Maybe it's because when people yell at me I want them to get diarrhea from a Tijuana Taco truck while lost and confused in Mexico and after the taco truck be dehydrated and full of parasites. But I don't say that out loud because I'm nice, (then Santa doesn't come to visit me and a bitch ain't worth that). So now I am laid back, understanding, and sweet, but on the inside, I'm like, " Are you SERIOUS!! I thought this would be easy! This is karma for something I did in my past life I know it is!" Maybe I was Latin in my past life? I am passionate and lead with my emotions so I very well could've been a Sassy Latina in my past life.
Numero tres: You have to make decisions based off what is most important to you
I think it's a good idea to evaluate your priorities before making longterm decisions. Like if you should eat whole wheat, high fiber cereal before going on the bus. The answer is no, trust me that is a recipe destined for diaster. Or if I don't want to cook and clean when I'm older so much I should marry a man with a love for domestication. Oh my gosh, typing that made me realize how lazy I actually am. I had to use words like "love for domestication" to say I want another mommy to take care of me forever. I've decided against it. I'm too expensive and have too many dreams for a shared teacher salary to support. And. So. Many. Doctors Appointments. Dermotolgist, Orthodontist, Optician, and Pediatrician. Get ready Hubbers!
Julianne! Wonderful writing as always!! But Ummm.. choir class wasn’t cool enough for you? AJ and the others ✌🏻😂 I’m just kidding. Soooo excited for the next writing!!
